Alappuzha is an important tourist destination in India. It is considered to be one of the oldest planned towns with a lighthouse built at the coast of the Kerala state. Lord Curzon praised the place by describing it as the “Venice of the East”. The place boasts of natural bounty in its amazing lagoons and lakes connecting it to the web of backwaters. The famous backwaters and magnificent beaches make it a popular tourist attraction in Kerala.
One can board a house-boat cruise to view the serenity, beautiful landscapes, well-planned towns, numerous temples and churches on these backwaters. Alappuzha is also the pivot point for the world-renowned annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race, held in the second week of August.
